Northern Arizona University is one of just a few colleges in the country with a campus located in a national forest. Founded in 1899 as the Northern Arizona Normal School, it later became the Northern Arizona State Teachers College and the Arizona State Teachers College at Flagstaff. Now called Northern Arizona University, it offers classes beyond education and teaching. The university introduced a number of extended campuses across the state that allow students to take classes without moving to Flagstaff, and students also have the right to take classes online.
